In Amadori Group's supply chains, we follow strict animal welfare standards inspired by internationally recognized principles. It is a daily commitment that is reflected in the quality and sustainability of our products.

The 5 freedoms of animal welfare

The principles that guide our work are the "5 freedoms" formulated by the Brambell Committee and recognized by the EC.

Freedom from hunger, thirst and poor nutrition
Freedom from inadequate physical environments
Freedom from pain, injury and disease
Freedom to express natural behaviors of the species
Freedom from fear and discomfort

These freedoms are the pillars of animal welfare and guide the entire path of our integrated supply chains, from breeding to transport to processing.

Regulations

We are committed to meeting and, where possible, exceeding current national and European regulations to ensure high standards of care and safety. A concrete example concerns animal transport: we have optimized transfer times from farms to plants, keeping them below the 12 hours required by law.

Our commitment, every day

Animal welfare is a top priority for the Amadori Group. In our farms, animals grow in adequate space, with balanced nutrition and without preventive use of antibiotics. In recent years, in fact, we have reduced the use of antibiotics by up to 97 percent in chickens and 89 percent in turkeys, using them only for therapeutic purposes under strict veterinary supervision. In addition, in our poultry lines of Il Campese, Quality 10+ and BIO, animals are raised without any use of antibiotics.

The pig supply chain has also been reorganized with multiple stalls and larger farrowing cages, doubling the space available to the animals and ensuring high standards of hygiene and safety.

Training and innovation

Continuing education is at the heart of our strategy to ensure animal welfare. Veterinarians, technicians and operators receive regular updates both in the classroom and remotely, with sessions dedicated to the different supply chains (chickens, turkeys, layers, pigs) and sectors (fattening and reproduction).

Coordinating this training is the Amadori Veterinary Committee; an average of 3 hours per month are devoted to the analysis of regulations, management of breeding practices, and in-depth study of specific topics. Staff attend national and international seminars and conferences to address new breeding methods, structural innovations, and advanced animal welfare techniques.

For the processing staff, specialized animal welfare courses organized by the Local Health Authorities grant the "Certificate of Suitability" required by EU Regulation 1099/2009 and ensure high skills in all stages of processing.

Animal transport and handling

Respect and care for our animals extend to transportation as well. Transfer times from our farms to the plants are below the maximum 12 hours required by law. Additionally, our vehicles are equipped with weather protection covers for the animals, ventilation systems that improve air circulation and fasteners to ensure the necessary safety. The goal is to ensure optimal conditions at every stage of the supply chain.

Collaborations and supply chains of excellence

The Amadori Group actively works with industry associations and stakeholders to continually raise animal welfare standards. Some of the poultry supply chains of excellence, such as Il Campese and BIO, only allow the presence of free-range animals, free to express natural behaviors, fed on a plant-based and GMO-free diet. These are concrete examples of our commitment to creating increasingly better conditions on farms.
